Bible Reading in 2005
As in many years in the past, I read through the entire Bible in 2004. However, I felt that in 2005, I would go about things a bit differently. For one thing, I'm not trying to read the books in sequence. I just completed II Chronicles and today I decided that I was ready for some adventure in Acts. I do intend to complete one book before I begin another, except for the Psalms and Proverbs which I read in everyday. For another, I'm not bent on reading through all 66 books in 365 days. I have discovered when using daily reading guides that nothing kills my incentive like falling a few days behind and feeling under pressure to "catch up." Reading whatever I have time to read each day inspires me to take my time, meditate, commune with Holy Spirit and truly find joy in the reading. Another thing that I'm doing differently these days is keeping several Bibles handy. I have a little one in my purse, a paperback on the side of the bathtub and, of course, my favorite John MacArthur study Bible in the Bible basket along with kid's Bibles. What has sometimes been a chore in the past, has become my lifeline. I literally do not feel that I can make it through even one day without reading the Word. As the song says, "It is the air I breathe." You have magnified your word above all your name -Psalm 138:2
