10 Things I Love About My Husband
I had to work hard to stop at just 10. My husband is the most awesome guy in the universe. I can't believe I get to live with this man. So-- I'm no David Letterman, but here's my Top Ten Tonight...
10. He's a GREAT gift giver. I'll admit it right now-- the way to my heart is through a Dillard's charge card. Just kidding. Seriously, he is always picking up little treats for me: a little candle from the nearby Amish candle shop, a bag of chocolate covered raisins, Krispy Kremes... He even does his own gift wrapping.
9. He's very romantic. He's never once forgotten my birthday, our anniversary, or mother's day. Not. Once.
8. He writes very romantic poetry. (See #9) I usually get one of his literary creations on Valentine's Day. I got a purse this year, but I USUALLY get poetry. (I really liked the purse though.)
7. He's incredibly smart (and married me anyway.) He went to the U of A on a full Dow Chemical Engineering scholarship before he transferred to the school where we met so that he could major in theology. If you know my husband well, you know that he has a near photographic memory. Near photographic in that when you ask him where a verse of Scripture is located, he can picture the page of his Bible in his head and tell you which column that verse is located. I, on the other hand, can't remember where I placed my keys an hour ago and I've been known to put the cordless phone in the refrigerator.
6. He watches chick flicks with me and LIKES them. (I think he likes Star Wars better, but I'm not holding THAT against him.) He also loves to watch this with me (on a nearly nightly basis thanks to Netflix). And drink this while we watch it. What a keeper.
5. He loves to talk. To me. I've never found much attraction in quiet men and when he took me on our first "date" (a walk to Dunnegan Park) he talked my ear off. I knew right then it was love.
4. He's an open book. So many people are pretentious and put on "airs." Not so with my darling. What you see is what you get. He's the real enchilada.
3. He's an awesome preacher. I've sat under my husband's preaching for the past 14 years and I've grown SO MUCH because of him. Never one to join a "party line," (I am, I'm such a joiner-- he's NOT.) sometimes we don't fit in ANY theological circles because he's just so doggone dedicated to being biblical.
2. He loves Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain. JUST KIDDING.
1. He's a great dad. He loves hard and disciplines hard. He's tough and tender. He changes diapers too.
1. (OK-- eleven things, but #2 doesn't count.) And the number one thing I love about my husband is: he's just THE BEST. If (God forbid) something should ever happen to him and I lost him forever, I don't think I could ever remarry. He's irreplaceable. And that's the truth.

that's beautiful! I'm glad to hear good things from those who have been married longer than I (sometimes it seems I hear just the opposite) and I just want to rejoice with you over the happily married life you have!
p.s. thanks for the congrats! i am very excited to become a "first-time mommy" and am already drinking enough water to be a camel and can't wait to wear cute maternity clothes!
Thank you for posting this! In our world where women spend so much time putting down their man or men in general - this was especially refreshing!
michelle,
just wanted to let you know that i read your blog daily and (even though i don't comment much) it is an enourmous encouragement to me. from time to time, i even print off one of your blogs and hang it up in my wing bathroom so all my girls can benefit as well. :-))
tell spencer that i say thanks for the comment and that he was the best children's pastor i've ever had.
much love,
miriam
OOHHHH...this made me cry...I'm such a darned sentamentalist....I'm so glad Spencer has the gift of being loved so much....he was such a diamond of an older brother...a true gem....he's blessed to have you Michelle..but God has rewarded him for being such a loving, kind, and sweet older brother. I know what you mean though....I am blessedly, totally, undeniably obsessed with my husband....I cannot imagine anyone else loving me the way that he does and being the wonderful man of God and father that he is....after 12 years...I'm still so radically in love with Kenney....
Isn't God good?

This is just beautiful, and having known the two of you for 4 years now, I think I have seen at least glimpses of all these things from time to time when I have been around you two. The fact that he loves you desperately is quite evident and also that you are quite crazy for him. From my perspective, he's just THE BEST pastor - not just preacher, but PASTOR - ever. I so appreciate how much he cares and the fact that he obviously wants to serve God and do His will above all else.
I love the fact that he is in choir and that he helps make it the joy that it is.
You and your family are an important part of my family's lives and we are soooo blessed to have you here.
WHAT a Tribute!!! You might spur me to make a top ten of my "Best" man. But, for now, about your man, He Is wonderful!! I had the privledge of knowing he and his family for years and I love him dearly! He is like another brother to me! He has always been who he is regardless of what others thought...standing firm in his beliefs and not wavering a bit...challenging others to have a closer walk with God....making us laugh...telling great stories with great expressions...encouraging...
caring and just flat our reflecting Christ!!! I am so blessed to have him as well as you as dear friends. You too have been such an encouragement to me on this blog! You are an example of organization and kindness and lifting up your husband and the LOrd!! WHat great traits! Sounds to me that God blessed you both!!
p.s. Ruth!!, get a blog going...we want to be chatting with you too!! ;)
I'm so glad everyone enjoyed this post. If it made everyone appreciate their own husbands more, even better!
Oh, and I realized this morning that I left off a very important thing about my dear husband-- he sings REALLY, REALLY, REALLY LOUD. I just love that about him. :)
Miriam- I love reading your blog too and in fact I often direct my older kids to it. So see, you're a role model from across the country!!
Spencer said that he loved being your children's pastor and now he loves leaving nerdy comments on your blog. "Groovy!" :)
Michelle,
This is so sweet! I loved reading everything about Spencer. He IS a true gentleman (like Mr. Darcy). I loved all you said about him and even learned some new things. I didn't know that he wrote romantic poetry. How cool! I giggled a little when you said he talked your ear off on the first date. I love to hear his stories. This is really making me miss you guys! Are you coming to my town anytime soon? :)
