When I'm an Old Lady...
I truly hope, when I'm an old lady, that I will continue to wave high, for all to see, the Titus 2 banner. From time to time, I hear older women say things that I think smack of selfishness and self absorption. (Well, I hear plenty of younger women, including MYSELF, say plenty of selfish, self-absorbed things too, but that's not what this post is about.) By the grace of God, when I'm an old lady, I hope that: 1. I will NEVER SAY, "I did my time in the nursery. It's time for the younger ones to put their time in." 2. I will happily volunteer to watch small children for some tired, younger mom who needs a day to run errands or visit the doctor or whatever. Yes, it will make me tired. And yes it will be a sacrifice. Isn't this what the Body of Christ is all about? (Galatians 2:20) 3. I will continue to work in VBS, children's Sunday School and children's choir. I will NEVER SAY, "I did my time..." (See #1) I will never say "I'm just not gifted to work with children." The Kingdom of God is all about PEOPLE. Children are just miniature people. 4. I will be even more hospitable than I am now. The Kingdom of God is all about relationships-- and relationships are nicely fostered over the dinner table. I will ESPECIALLY try to remember to invite large families into my home. 5. I will NOT dive into secular employment after my children are grown. (I'm not saying that I'll never work for some sort of wage, but I don't want to suddenly turn my heart's focus and energy to a career.) Rather, my goal will be to continue on the track on which I currently ride, by giving, caring for, teaching and loving my grandchildren. When I'm an old lady I will endeavor to teach the younger women to love their husbands, love their children and to be hard workers in their homes so that THE WORD OF GOD MAY NOT BE BLASPHEMED. (Titus 2:3) Hmmm. Guess I need to hop on the treadmill and take a better look at the South Beach Diet, NOW so that CAN I do all of things... when I'm an old lady.
