Happy May Day!
I just love the month of May! Even though I haven't attended school in about 15 years now, my brain continues to revolve around a school calendar. Having school-aged children may have something to do that, but I sort of think I would be this way regardless. January 1st seems much less significant than August 25th which seems like the beginning of the new year to me. December 31st isn't nearly as exciting as the end of May, which signals that the end of school is drawing near. In May, people start running their mowers and grilling out. And then I start leaving my windows open more so that I can smell it all. My birthday is in May and even though birthdays aren't the euphoric days that they were when I was a kid, I always smile on my special day. Everything is green and ripe with promise in May. May makes me hopeful. So, when I saw Monica's custom of blessing her friends with the surprise of flowers, I got inspired. Anna and I went down to the local dime store, purchased a few pink petunias, came home and potted them in some old vegetable cans that I snagged from our school's cafeteria, and then we went and surprised three people. All of the people we chose to surprise were people that I thought needed a little cheering. We only got caught by one person and she was completely delighted. I had a ball doing this and think I want to plan ahead next year and bring cheer to several more. On another note, I read from the Psalms every morning. I always read the Psalm that coordinates with the calendar date and then every 30th one after that. Today I read Psalm 1, 31, 61, 91 and 121. As a result of this practice, I tend to associate certain Psalms with certain days of the month. For example, every month on the 1st, I always think of Psalm chapter one.
Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.
According to this Scripture, I can experience fresh things from the Lord by saturating my heart in His Word. Like a tree--planted by the rivers of water. When my heart becomes stagnate, it's because I'm not meditating day and night. It's because I'm not fixated upon him. The Word is constantly bringing me cheer and refreshment just like the flowers did for my friends today. So happy May Day everyone! I hope you found some cheer today and may your life be like a tree planted by the rivers of water-- bringing forth fruit in its season...not withering...prospering... and flourishing...

What a great idea! We've given little baskets of candy before but I like the planted flower idea better.

BTW - I love your new website look!
