The Twos Rule
Alrighty-- it's Wednesday again. And thanks to Shannon from Rocks in My Dryer, it's time to share a little bit of "what works for me..."
This may seem extremely obvious to others, but I just started doing this a couple of years ago and it has really helped to keep the chaos down to a dull roar around here. It's a little rule I that I created entitled "The Twos Rule." The rule goes like this:
You are to have TWO of every staple item for your pantry, laundryroom or bathroom in stock at all times.
This really is as simple as it sounds: you will have two bottles of ketchup, two bottles of your favorite salad dressing, two boxes of dishwasher detergent, two bottles of shampoo, two tubes of your favorite eye-liner, two of...well...
EVERYTHING!
When I run out of "one" of the "two," that item gets placed on a running list that I keep posted on my refrigerator. When it's time to make menus and go grocery shopping, I add the refrigerator list items to the new grocery list. This rule ensures that I never really run out of anything. The only time this rule doesn't work is when we're short on cash and I can't afford to keep two of something in stock. But most of the time, you can count on it, I have two of just about everything.
Works for me! :)
Feel free to jump in here with your own "Works-For-Me Wednesday", and let me know--I'll link to you!

Great idea! I hadn't thought of it in that way - but the two-rule makes it easy to remember!
Good idea! My tip is posted, too. Thanks for participating, I love everyone's tips.
I do this too - I *HATE* to need something and not have it. Also do the same thing with groceries. If I notice I am getting low on something - it goes on "the list". Some people might call me COMPULSIVE.......... I also think it is more cost effective. If I have to go to a store for a couple of items, I end up spending $50 because I pick up other things here and there. If I am well stocked, it keeps those trips to a minimum.
Good idea! I do this with *critical* items like toothpaste, deodorant, and TP, but hadn't really carried it out to the "everything else" category. Makes a lot of sense, though, especially with gas prices being what they are. My tip is posted too!
Mine's up too...
Love these tips. I have put one up also.
I am also a two of most things kind of gal. Ok, and sometimes I am a 4 or 5 of things gal. Especially TP. We ran out of TP more times than I can count growing up, so I am pretty compulsive about that one ;-)
I love this idea and I'm learning some really neat tips from you and others.
Love, love, love it! Great rule!
I hadn't thought to make it an official rule....but I live by that rule myself. It does save time and embarrassment...when you run out of toilet paper and there is company in the bathroom calling out....asking where the extra rolls are!

I'm good about keeping some things double-stocked, but I like the idea of making it a rule for everything. Good thinking.
That's a great idea, I'm going to start doing this too. :)
Very simple, but useable, too! And if everything is organized and in it's place, easy to find what you need and know when you need more. I lilke this! ;)
.
I do that too! I never run out of anything- it's great!
Great idea...thanks for sharing! I was looking forward to tips on Wed.
I do the same thing and sometimes it's more than 2 of certain items... if we bought them at Cosco it's probably 10 of that item. :-) Didn't know there was another "stocker" out there! Mine tip is also up.
I had to go to Hobby Lobby tonight to get more yarn for an afghan I'm making, and as I grabbed a spool off the top rack, I suddenly remembered "The Twos Rule" and reached for a second. When I'm crocheting late at night this weekend and suddenly run out of thread, I'll be *so* happy to have a spare on hand!
Sheryl-
I hadn't thought of the Twos Rule in connection with sewing and crafts, but I think if you're serious about these sorts of things, the Twos Rule would save a lot of grief.
I'm *really* getting into knitting now, (pictures of scarf matching Anna's Knifty Knitter hat coming soon...) so maybe I'll start stocking up on these sorts of things. :)
That is a great idea. It would actually be helpful in the "short on cash" weeks because if one bottle runs out you have a back up until your "cash flow" is back and you can restock! Another great tip!
