Table Talk
Tonight after our company left, we called the kids into the living room for evening prayer and a recap of today's sermon. Today was "Sanctity of Life Sunday" (Roe v. Wade happened on January 22, 1973) and Cole preached from Genesis 16. The passage is about Sarai being harsh with the newly pregant Hagar and Hagar fleeing to the wilderness. We asked each child what he/she learned. Here are some of the responses:
Emma: "I never knew Hagar was an Egyptian."
Tru: "I never knew that Middle Easterners were children of Abraham."
Ty: "I was wondering if Sarai's plan for Abraham to have a baby with Hagar was OK with God." (Good question Titus. NO, it was not OK!)
Ava: "I don't really remember anything else, but Daddy, I thought your sermon was VERY interesting." (If you can't impress dad with facts, the charm factor will work in a pinch.)
I was very moved by the fact that the Bible clearly states that the child in Hagar's womb would be a wild man who would be against many-- and yet God "saw" Hagar and child and blessed Hagar and child. I had never thought of this passage in connection with abortion before, but very much appreciated the relevance today.
May God bless the unborn this year.
