Patiently Waiting
When he comes, as he will come
With quiet eyes aglow
You will know that he's the man
You prayed for long ago.
-Ruth Bell Graham
That's what I wrote several years ago to my beautiful friend Amy, when she wondered if God would ever bring a godly man into her life. "Wait," I would tell her. "Don't settle for anything less than God's best." For two and a half years she would come over to my house for one afternoon every week after school, for Bible study and accountability. I would ask her how her daily Bible reading was going and I led her through books like Passion and Purity and Boy Meets Girl. Those were some sweet days.
Guys came in and out of Amy's life all throughout high school and then in college and some of them even seemed slightly promising. But it never worked out and she finally told her dad that she thought she might be a candidate for the first Baptist nun ever.
This week I received a Valentine card from Amy. Here is a portion of her handwritten note:
Michelle-
Happy Valentine's Day! This Valentine's Day I have have so much to be thankful for. I have such a dear, sweet valentine that I thank the Lord for everyday. But I am also thankful for those who have seen me cry my lonely tears and who have been there to encourage me...Thank you for the way you've blessed my life and for such a special friendship...All that's left to say is, you were right! Love, Amy
It's easy to be right when you're trusting God's Word. I'm so happy for you Amy and your very handsome, kind and generous Bill. You have sown in patience and now you're reaping joy.
I can't wait until the wedding!!!! Congratulations and Happy Engagement!!!

Ahhh, so wonderful to see the ending in the stories of those who wait. My kids are in a wedding this summer for a girl I had the some of the same conversations with! God is faithful!
What a sweet story! I hope they live happily ever after...
