We're Pretty Trashy (Works for Me Wednesday)
We’re sort of a trashy family. No, I’m not talking about Hollywood here. We don’t even have TV. (Well, we have own a television set, but we don’t have a cable subscription, thus only allowing us to view shows of the dvd or vhs variety.) Anyway, I’m talking about REAL trash here, folks, and TONS OF IT. Those of you with several children know exactly what I’m talking about. As a survival mechanism, I went to the Dollar store and purchased the largest outdoor trashcan available, cut a square hole in the lid and placed the can in my my kitchen. Yes, that’s right. We have an outdoor trashcan IN OUR KITCHEN. The hole in the lid is an idea I stole from fastfood restaurants. It also allows you to throw the trash in the can quickly without having to take the entire lid off. The lid also hides MOST of your unsightly garbage. I may not win any House Beautiful awards, but I don’t have to take the trash out multiple times per day and that’s worth two or three awards to me. Works for me!! Go to Shannon's Blog for the rest. P.S. While we’re on trash, I also have a huge trash can in my garage just next to where we park our van. This is for all of the van trash that accumulates in the blink of an eye. Keeping a large trashcan handy makes cleaning out our van a little more "convenient" for the kids. Signing off for the weekend, folks. Planning a big 40th wedding anniversary bash for my parents and won't be back 'til Saturday. Over and out.

Love the trash ideas! My husband grew up in a fgamily of 6 and his mom did the same. I also keep a trash can by the van, but it seems to be always overflowing.

We love a big trash can too, only ours isn't a traditional trash can, but a barrel! It's big, it's sort of decorative, and it holds a whole lotta trash. Only problem is we don't have a half-lid to cover the "unsightly trash" but I don't even care - this can really does the trick for our family!

That is an awesome idea, unfortunately my kitchen is too small to fit one LOL

Great idea. I bet I could put one in the utility room just off the kitchen. That's where we mostly throw things away as it is. I love the (w)hole idea!

HI, MY NAME IS JAMIE, I FOUND YOUR BLOG THROUGH COURTNEY'S. ANYWAY, I TOO HAVE ONE OF THOSE VERY LARGE TRASH CANS IN MY KITCHEN, THE KIND THAT TAKES THE LAWN/LEAF BAGS (39 GALLON). I THOUGHT THAT WAS FUNNY THAT SOMEONE ELSE HAS A LARGE TRASH CAN IN THEIR KITCHEN LIKE I DO....LOL

I love the hole in the top idea. I've always wanted a hole in my countertop I could just push things in and have them land in a garbage can in the cupboard below.

Hey, that trashcan idea goes pretty well with my redneck image. I wonder if you could spray paint it and decopage a pretty napkin on it?

After giving it some thought, I realize that last comment sounded a bit snotty. It was intended to make fun of me, but it may have sounded like I was calling you a redneck. That's NOT what I was doing.

Sorry if it came off that way :-(

Ah, Supermom, your sense of humor always comes shining through. I definitely think you should spraypaint and decoupage yours...
