Al, Al, He's Our Man
If you've never heard of Dr. Al Mohler, he's definintely worth checking out.
If we could have even remotely afforded it 15 years ago, Cole probably would have attended The Master's Seminary (associated with Dr. John MacArthur). But as most of you know, graduate level work ain't cheap and the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention pays half-tuition if you attend one of their schools and are simultaneouly a member of a Southern Baptist Church. Too good a deal to pass up, for sure. Cole graduated in 1994 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity, but he was never completely happy with the education he received. From time to time he still says that there were a lot of things that should have been taught at the Master's level that weren't.
But times have changed. If we were newlyweds again, just embarking on the seminary life, I know where we'd go: Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Why? Because their president, Al Mohler is bold, mind-boggling intelligent, and biblical all the way. He's even a Calvinist to boot! (I know all of you reformed friends are thinking Including the fact that he's biblical and a Calvinist in the same sentence is redundant. :) But I just had to say it.
We might have gone to Southern this go around for the doctorate, but five years ago, when we sent resumes to the Louisville area and to the Kansas City area, God led us to the church which Cole currently pastors and therefore Midwestern was the obvious choice.
Anyway, recently my good friend Al wrote an THIS EXCELLENT ARTICLE affirming the Biblical value of the stay-at-home mom. He writes this in response to this segment of ABC's Good Morning America . Once in a while, it's just nice to be affirmed for what you do. Thanks, Al.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
That is a scream of rage. Now that I got that out of my system, I can feel an eensy bit of sympathy for that woman. It makes me wonder what her childhood was like, and what her relationship with her mother was like. I'm stunned that there are really people out there who feel this way.
that's pretty incredible - reading both the ABC news article and then Al's article. I'm VERY stunned to believe that a woman could be so out-of-touch as to promote that stay-at-home moms are doing society a disservice. That's just absurd! I utterly admire and look up to all you precious moms who are staying home with your children, homeschooling them, and raising them up in the way they should go.
At this moment in my life, I am still unsure of whether I will have children of my own. It's kind of a hard thing to explain. But, if I ever have children of my own, you can bet that I will be doing everything in my power to stay home and raise them myself. And, I will not be made to feel bad for my decision. Take that, Linda Hirshman!
My husband did graduate from Southern and is currently doing his PhD there. We loved our time there and I would love to live in Louisville again (what a great city!). But like you we had a hard time finding a church in the area that could support our family (3 kids and I stay at home). We live in Georgia now (my hubby is done with his classwork)pastoring a church here. I have enjoyed your blog... although I don't really know how I got here!
