Hey Daddy!
I'm not new to this mothering thing. I've known for quite some time now that the "d" consonant is much easier for a neo-talker to say than the "m" consonant. So-- it's never really hurt my feelings that all five of my children have said "DaDa" before they said "MaMa." It's OK. Really. Even though I carry them in my body for nine months and lovingly nurse them (forever) and do all of the sacrificial things that mothers do for their babies. I know it's not personal. Until Jane. Jane pads around the house all day babbling who knows what. The truth is, no one in our family can decipher even a third of her baby-speak. But one morning last week (and every morning thereafter) as I opened her bedroom door to wake her up for the day, Jane stood up in her crib just as fast as her chubby little lets would carry her, beamed at me with glistening eyes and said as clearly a speech therapist: "Hey Daddy!" So I guess I'm daddy now. I needed to get in touch with my masculine side anyway.

that is too funny! my grandson has started taking up the word dada except I'm not sure where he's heard it from since HIS dad is not in our house and I can barely recall if any of us have said it. kinda strange. i wonder if there's something innate with the words mama and dada?
tell us how it goes getting in touch with your masculine side.
:-)

Funny girl! Hmm, the masculine side. Like grilling burgers and working with power tools? I can get into that!

My toddler's first family member's name was "Da-dow." As clear as can be, as we went up the driveway, he looks out the window and said, "da-dow" to the DOG. I think that "duhduh" was second (big sis Amanda). I guess those are both "d's," too so I can take comfort in that. And honestly, a funny seven year old and a friendly dog are much more exciting than the mom that takes care of them 24 hours a dayy.

That is funny, at least she called you first, no matter the name! :) Wait till she calls daddy, mommy. Now that will be funny!

My 9 1/2 month old babbles dadadadad all day long too. At first I was sad, but my husband pointed out that at least he's NOT saying my name all day long! I can simple shrug my shoulders and say, "You're right-- Daddy's at work!"

I feel like I'm not complete without my family just like the family doesnt feel complete without me. I was wondering if you could send a Pic of Jane when you send your messege to Aunt Megan so she can print it and give it to me at camp.
