Going to the Chapel
Three.
Seeing as I have three girls, that's how many weddings I'll be paying for someday. Apparently, I'd better start saving right away.
I went to Bride and Groom today, armed with my mother-in-law's charge card. She told me to pay for the tuxedos for which our family was responsible. The total for 6 tuxedos with matching shoes?? Guess. No, really. Go ahead and guess what the bill totalled out at. $400?? No, higher. $500.00? Guess again. $600.00? Higher.
$747.24. And we don't get to keep a thing. Highway robbery.
I've always laughed at those weddings where all of the groomsmen wear Levis and cowboy hats. Now I get it. You can get a good pair of Levis for under $40.00. AND YOU GET TO KEEP THEM!! I told Abbey this afternoon that she officially has my permission to run off to Vegas. I'll even spring for the Deluxe Ceremony at the The Little White Wedding Chapel.

Thoughts like this make my head spin! :-)
Grateful for boys! Hi Michelle, had to do a return visit. Thanks for stopping by to see me. I'm loving your blog. And it is such a treat to put a face to your name. You're so pretty!! :)

With two girls myself, I know exactly where you're coming from ... thoughts of those coming expenses are frightening!
When I worked as an assistant to one of our teaching pastors a few years ago, he used to encourage parents of the bride not to spring for an elaborate wedding but instead to fund a VERY SIMPLE celebration, then assist their kids with a down payment toward their first home. Makes perfect sense to me. The whole wedding business has gotten way out of hand.
My friend's daughter was supposed to get married this summer and I told her that it wasn't important to have a big expensive wedding; it was only important to have a memorable wedding. But, being a bride is a lot like having a baby, you tend to get caught up in all the cute stuff. I'm happy to have a son!
Frankly, when my 3 boys get married, I'm going to push for nice, dark suits. What's the big deal with tuxedos anyway. They're a ripoff. Same with bride's maids gowns. I picked a very simple pattern when I got married, with the idea the dress could be shortened and worn again. None of this froo-froo stuff. My sister did the same thing!
Katherine knows she isn't getting a $10,000+ wedding, and she's all for that. It's so out of hand, isn't it? Well, at least we'll have flowers for a reasonable cost--she's a florist, LOL! (And she's only 21, no where near getting married.)
My husband and I got married in Las Vegas back in 1990. All our family drove up, we had the delux package in a really cute chapel with a sweet southern baptist minister. They drove us there in a limo and we went out to a nice restaurant for dinner after. Not the fairy tale wedding everyone dreams of, but it was nice and we have no regrets!
We used to joke about locking in the 2002 rates at Glen Eyrie for all four of the girls for whenever the time came...
:)
