4 for a $1
I've never had a child who keeps her room as messy as my little Ava does. I don't know WHAT the deal is. She slings clothes around the room, hides little scraps of paper in the oddest places and stuffs things under the bed and in drawers. We've been working on it, but even remembering that it's an issue is clearly something that is not in her personality bent.
So-- a few days ago, I made a deal with her. For every 4 days that she goes to bed with a clean room, she gets one dollar. Cha-Ching. She is soo motivated. Bribery, you say? Maybe. I'm choosing to call it "positive reinforcement" for now.

Laughing, I especially liked your cha-ching emphasis. Nothing talks like a little moola. My daughter likes to collect things as well and she also likes to drape her jewelry on door handles, drawer handles, lamps etc. She doesn't understand why that beautiful decorating needs to be removed. :)
This totally cracks me up! By the way...hey "hearsjoy"....I tried messaging your blogg...but alas..don't have an account set up yet..boo hoo :(...wish we could get together sometime! Yes...my little girly is just like that...I don't understand because I am totally a neat freak...almost obsessive compulsive. My girlie is like...La...TEE....DA....clean? What is clean? I put all my toys, coat, shoes, etc. in the floor in the center of my room...tape on my bed, sheets, walls.....what does a little tape hurt anything?....Oh....you don't want everything I "cleaned" off my dresser and brushed into my top drawer, there? I have to put stuff in different drawers? Oh..that's no problem momma...yah...momma..I love to clean. It is such a crack up...I hope there is hope for her someday! :)

Hey Ruth! I'm sorry you couldn't get on my site due to the account thing. How are you doing it on this site? I was trying to figure that out. I would Love for you to blog too! I'm sure you would have some great blogs! Don't feel pressure, once you take the plunge you will be hooked! We do need to get together. I'm glad all our girlies can relate...maybe they will be able to relate to their mothers trying to reform them as well! ;)
It is amazing how money can motivate. I asked the kids to help me move stuff from the front porch (where it got dropped off during our move) to the basement. I offered $0.25 for each item they took downstairs. I ended up having to give Hayley $6.25 and Andrew $5.00. I had to take all the big stuff, but they handled all the light stuff. Caleb, on the other hand was more interested in riding his bike over the new pile of gravel in our driveway. It saved me numerous trips around the house and down the stairs (not that I couldn't have used the exercise, though!!) Positive reinforcement, bribery, whatever you call it; it works for me.
