Corresponding With My Son
Truett's been away all week. Boy have we missed him around here! Two things I didn't realize: 1) How much I talk to this particular child--I've really missed the conversation! 2) How helpful he is. Both of my older kids are extremely helpful around the house (usually) but since one is a girl and one is a boy, I rely on them for different types of chores. I'm really going to be thankful to have the free slave labor help again. Click here for photos over at my sister's blog. I wrote a letter to him, with very specific questions. (I always do this when my kids go away--you find out a lot more than if you had just asked, "How's it going?")
Here's a sample of our correspondence with my thoughts added.
1. Do you like your counselors?
Yes! They are both really great guys and they both have cool computers.
Whew! I was really concerned about the quality of technology there on staff. Thanks for the low down.
2. What is his name and where is he from and how old is he? What is his church background? Baptist, Presbyterian, Bible Church?
I only know one and he's Baptist, but grew up non-denominational.
It's all good.
3. Have you made any friends? If so, are they the kind of friends with whom you will stay in touch via email and IM?
I made a few friends but they do AIM which I don't have.
What is AIM?? Should I know about AIM? Why don't I know about AIM? Parent's are always the last to know...
4. What is this year's theme and do you like it? Cool theme? Dorky theme?
The theme was originally the Eagle Lake International Airport, but changed to LOST because our plane had a emergency landing on an unknown island.
Cool. Easy to see how they're going to use that theme in connection with the Gospel. Very cool.
5. Have you memorized any Scripture?
13 verses
That's my boy.
6. Have you been swimming any? Joined the Dippy Club?
I swam like the Blob and the Watertotter, but no Dippy because I had second meal time so if I didn't do dippy then I could sleep in a whole hour.
Glad to see you're personality hasn't changed any while you've been away.
7. Have you had enough money? If not, borrow some from Megan and I'll pay her back.
I had plenty of money, but she bought me a hoodie and you owe her some $. (I didn't ask her to--she got them on discount.)
Of course you didn't ask her to. And how could you refuse such a deal?? ;)
8. How has your health been? Have you been feeling winded? Nauseated? Headaches? Whatever? You need to tell the nurse if you are not feeling well.
I was feeling a little bad on Monday, but now I'm good.
Answered prayer. Thank-you, Lord.
9. How's the food been?
ELC just got a new cook so the food was better then the last two times, but still only a little better then school food.
With the Rays--it's always about the food.
10. How was the banquet?
It was great! I bought the DVD, so you can see it !
I love that about you son- no one else in the family would have thought to buy the DVD.
Well-- I love you, Mom, and will see you tomorrow.
I love you too, boy. More than you'll ever know.

PS - I was going to ask if he even wanted one, but he was having too much fun to interrupt. I went ahead and bought it without asking... Sorry!
:)
PS -How was your blogger lunch today?
No problem at all, sis. Glad he was able to get one at a good deal! :)
This is a great idea! I so need to do this with my daughters while they're at their dads. They don't remember to call or write, but if I sent them a list of questions, maybe they'd answer them and send them back.
What a clever Mommy you are! Ask specific questions! Sounds like you two have a very sweet relationship!
